In the Bono East Region is a small town called Tanoboase. It is about 30 minutes drive from the business capital, Techiman and a little over 2 hours drive from Sunyani.
The name Tanoboase was derived from the formation of the gorgeous sedimentary rocks and the god ,Tano.
Tanoboase, simply means under Tano’s rock was discovered by a hunter several decades ago.

In Tanoboase is the Tano sacred grove and shrine which is believed to be the home of the Ashanti god , Taakora.
There are five compartments, the main entrance, durbar ground, hideout, watch tower and stairs.
Taakora, the highest of the Akan gods on earth, is believed to dwell at the source of the Tano River within the grove, making it a sacred place.

Google maps takes one directly to the entrance but I noticed they have only one tour guide and one must ask of him when they get to the town before arriving at the grove.

I loved the place. The view, the hike to the various compartments and the entire trip was a smooth one. I noticed they didn’t have a fixed charge for touring the place and as such the tourist guide charged whatever pleased him which is unfair. I will encourage everyone to go see this Tano Sacred Grove and Shrine as it isn’t close to anything I have seen before and whiles at it visit the other groves in the Bono East Region.

Tourism in this country has a long way to go and I keep asking if we will ever get to any proper destination.
The Bono East, Bono and Ahafo Regions used to be the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana and when it comes to tourism, they are known for only the kintampo waterfalls.
This year , I hope to show you around the Bono and Ahafo Regions and correct that notion.
