After Joseph got a job, our communication dwindled for obvious reasons. However, we would talk as and when we could. He had to switch his classes schedule since the evening school was no longer convenient because of his new job.

One Thursday late afternoon, I got a call from Joseph. I answered my phone and he siad; “Dee! Dee!! Dee!! My boss called me today and said he needs someone like me to manage the accounts at one of the subsidiary companies in Osu” Do you know anybody? I thought about it and I had you in mind”. Would you be interested in the position? He asked. Do I need a job, big yes! Without any hesitation, I replied, ” yes I am interested’.

He asked me to come for an interview the next day, gave me directions to his work place and shared some interview tips with me. I was chill about the interview, I had been to so many interviews and looked forward to a positive outcome but all I ever got was dead silence or “we are sorry bla bla bla”

I showed up on Friday morning in my orange African print dress, gave him a call when I was close, he met me and took me into his office. I waited at the reception, a little while after, the interviewer called me in. The interviewer wrote some accounting questions on a paper and asked me to pass the entries for each. About five questions if I recall correctly, I got four questions correct out of the five. We discussed the salary part, I was issued my appointment letter right there and then with my start date being Monday, 19th March, 2018.

I walked up to Joe’s desk, told him I was done with the interview and was asked to start work on Monday. I could see the excitement on his face, he looked like he wanted to jump for joy but kept his cool. We walked out of the office, locked eyes and burst into laughter. He then told me to go and register for social security and open a bank account if i did not have one.
