Humble Beginnings

Growing up in Aburi, I loved getting my hands dirty; by that, I mean backyard farming.

My favourite uncle was both a farmer and a craftsman. Many days, my cousins and I would accompany him to the farm. He reared chickens at our family house, and I even got to name a few of them. Everyone knew which chickens were mine—and you dared not use them for soup.

Writing this brings back so many memories, but I will focus on today’s reflection.

That early exposure sparked a genuine love and deep interest in farming. I went on to cultivate my own backyard farm, growing tomatoes, peppers, and yams.

Even after moving across regions, cities, and borders, that love never faded. I’ve longed for the day I could live out that childhood dream again—and that day is finally here.

In the attached video, I am growing onions, ginger, green bell peppers, red grapes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and aloe vera(for my skin and hair care 🫣🙈)

So do not make the mistake of gifting me even the tiniest piece of land. You would be amazed what I would turn it into.

What habits or passions did you pick up from your childhood?

And do you have any farming tips for me?
