Day Ones. Ep 2

Joseph and I

I would talk with them for hours on phone, all four of them. We would wake each other up to study and hang out together when we had the chance.

Like I said, we all became friends. This 👇🏾 was us at my first and last Chalewote street art festival in 2018. At the time, it was a dream come true for me to finally experience the most talked about week long event that comes off between August-September each year.

Benji, Kwesi and Moi

Joseph, Kwesi and I were the employed bunch in the group. I remember Joe and I having lengthy conversations during the day before class, sharing our struggles, aspirations and praying for each other. Joseph was a member of a gospel music group, I could sing but wasn’t part of a church choir or anything of the sort at the time. We would sing gospel songs back to back.

Eventually, Joe got a job. I was happy when he shared the news with me. I understood what landing a job meant to him.

As Joe was no longer available for long talks during the day, Kwesi and I got closer. Initially he was annoying. Kwesi mostly sat in front of MaryAnn and I in Management Accounting class. The boy would pass funny comments and make people laugh, mostly ladies while lectures were in session. Mind you, Management Accounting was a course I struggled with, I did not find his jokes funny, rather, I was irritated by his act.

Gradually, I began warming up to Kwesi. In his words, “ I won you over”. From our frequent talks, I realized he was a cool dude, very selfless and kind. Always ready to help, no questions asked. He was still annoying and would deliberately poke me to get a reaction. I realized we had a lot in common, we were both dreamers. We were not afraid to try out our ideas, regardless of how silly they sounded or even when we did not have a clue what we were getting ourselves into.
